Syunik: Landscape of Endurance is a photographic journey through one of Armenia’s most storied regions. This land of steep ridges, deep valleys, and centuries-old sanctuaries is where history and geography are inseparable.
Through decades of upheaval, Syunik has remained a stronghold of Armenian endurance and is a place where belonging, culture, and memory persist. We created this body of work and exhibition to explore what it means to remain rooted in a changing landscape.
Following the loss of Artsakh, Syunik has taken on renewed symbolic and strategic significance, carrying both the resilience and the trauma of survival. Each image in this series reveals a living archive: churches clinging to cliffs, mountain villages carved by time, and the quiet strength of people who stay.
Presented as part of the River Arts Open Studio Tour, Syunik invites visitors to explore not only the exhibition but also the studios of many local artists across Hastings, Dobbs Ferry, and other towns..
This exhibition is the centerpiece of Ted & Nune’s 2025 fall season, which also includes:
Ararat in the Eyes of Armenians (Yerevan, Armenia): group exhibition, a prelude that reflects on the spiritual horizon of Armenian identity.
Art in Fall: New York, Nov 15–16, a community celebration of Armenian creativity, with proceeds supporting the Hovnanyan School.
A portion of proceeds from Syunik: Landscape of Endurance will benefit communities in Armenia’s Syunik region.
