Does your print match your screen? This workshop is about using Photoshop to close the gap between what you see and what you get.
Send us a finished image a week ahead. We print it on two very different Hahnemühle papers and hang it on the studio proofing wall. You arrive to your own work already up, next to everyone else’s. Which paper do you prefer and why? This is where we start.
The morning covers color management, monitor calibration, and what an ICC profile actually does. Then printers and papers, with an Epson P9570 in the room and seventeen Hahnemühle papers on the table to compare. Surface, texture, base tone, fiber, optical brighteners, and the question that decides most choices: how matte and gloss handle deep tones, and why it matters for your images.
After lunch we work on files. All demonstrations will be in Photoshop. Finding where highlights and shadows fail before you commit to a print. Sizing and sharpening for a specific paper at a specific size, and what to hand over when someone else does the printing. We finish with handling, drying, storage, and what archival really means.
You leave with your proofs from the morning, a corrected 13 by 19 print, and several sample packs provided courtesy of Hahnemühle, roughly forty sheets across seventeen papers.
Bring a laptop with Photoshop and a mouse. Demonstrations are in Photoshop, and you should be comfortable with layers, curves, and masks. Other editors are welcome if they have the same functionality. No calibration hardware needed.
